Insurance for dental services are set to go up by an average 14% this year, while coverage is being reduced, the AD reports on Monday.

The paper bases its claims on cost comparison website vezekerings-site.nl. For example, VGZ, Zilveren Kruis and De Amersfoortse are all increasing premiums while cutting the amount of treatment covered, the AD says.
Next year dentists will be free to set their own fees, a move which health minister Edith Schippers hopes will lead to better service and more competition. Insurance companies, however, fear prices will rise, prompting an increase in premiums.
Most dentists still have to publish their new charges but some sharp increases have already been announced, the paper says.
For example, the cost of a six-monthly check up at the Mondmedicentrum, which operates eight dental practices in Oss and Den Bosch, is going up from just under €20 to almost €30. At the same clinic, the cost of filling a hole will rise from €43 to €82.
