Speeding fines reach €2.5m on widened motorway

Since the A2 motorway between Amsterdam and Utrecht was widened to ten lanes in August 2010, nearly 125,000 motorists have been fined for speeding.

Before the A2 was widened it had a maximum speed limit of 120 kph. That was reduced to 100 kph once the work was finished on the request of local councils to limit pollution.
It is estimated that the fines have enriched the treasury to the tune of nearly €2.5m.
The governing right-wing liberal VVD and the anti-Islam PVV want to increase the speed limit to 130 kph because the width of the road invites fast driving.
