Bird watchers flock to catch a glimpse of ‘lost’ long-tailed shrike
Hundreds of bird watchers are heading for the sea dunes near the marine port of Den Helder after a rare long-tailed shrike (Lanius schach) was spotted.
It is thought to be the first time a long-tailed shrike has been seen in the Netherlands. The birds normally breed in Siberia and overwinter in India.
‘Something has gone wrong with his internal navigation system,’ local bird expert Mario Renden told the Telegraaf.
