Most hospital directors’ pay deals break industry norms

Most Dutch hospital directors earn more than the semi-official ceiling on public sector pay – currently around €190,000 a year, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Wednesday.

The paper bases its claims on its own research, based on analysing hospital annual reports. On average, hospital bosses earn €240,000 a year.
And 40% of hospital chiefs earn more than €247,000 a year, breaking the sector’s own guidelines. These rules state directors who run complicated institutions or who are involved in highly competitive sectors can earn up to that figure.
The research also shows most hospitals made a profit last year, with an average profit margin of 2%.
