Horn of Africa appeal raises €5m

The public appeal for money to help victims of the drought in the Horn of Africa has now raised €5m, aid groups said on Thursday.

Earlier this week, junior foreign affairs minister Ben Knapen said he was disappointed at the public’s reponse, after donations to the Giro 555 emergency aid account had only raised €2m.
The region is suffering its worst drought in 60 years, according to the UN. More than 10 million people have been affected by failing harvests, food shortages and high prices.
