CDA refuses to name major corporate donor
The Christian Democratic party (CDA) is refusing to reveal the name of a corporate sponsor who gave €100,000 to the party’s campaign fund for last year’s general election, the NRC reports.
A spokesman for the party would only say the money comes from a firm which ‘advises on mergers, take-overs and corporate finance’. Under current Dutch election law, political parties are only required to reveal which sector major corporate donors operate in.
The donation is mentioned in the CDA’s annual report as ‘proceeds from financial campaign’ but the sector is not included.
Earlier this year, home affairs minister Piet Hein Donner submitted draft legislation which will involve making the identities of people and firms who donate more than €1,000 public.
