Average working week gets shorter by one hour
The average number of hours worked by people in the Netherlands has gone down by one hour a week over the past 10 years even though more women have joined the workforce, new figures from the national statistics office CBS show.
The average number of hours worked a year has fallen from 1,435 to 1,381 with both men and women working less, the CBS says.
Men are working 53 hours a year less while women are working 20 fewer hours overall. Women are more likely to work part time and now account for 37% of all the hours worked.
We might be working less, but productivity has gone up, the CBS says. In 2000, each hour of work generated added value of €32, but that has now risen to €44.
