Schools unwilling to fill gap in culture subsidy
A quarter of secondary schools will not pay for cultural activities to make up for the scrapping of the student culture card which junior culture minister Halbe Zijlstra is planning, according to research by TNS NIPO.
The rest of the schools (71%) will only partly finance the shortfall, the research shows.
The subsidised culture card allows students to spend €15 a year on culture, either in class activities or on their own.
Some schools are debating whether to raise the contribution made by parents, says TNS NIPO, but two-thirds of them are not prepared to pay any more.
