Restrict supermarket beer price wars, says alcohol institute
Supermarket price wars involving beer are dangerous to the public health and encourage alcohol abuse, the Dutch institute for alcohol policy said on Wednesday.
MPs are due to debate changes to alcoholic drink laws next week, and restrictions on supermarket price cuts are one of the options up for discussion.
Supermarkets control some 90% of the home consumption beer market.
Institute director Wim van Dalen told the Telegraaf that supermarkets carry out up to 3,000 promotional campaigns involving cut price beer a year.
