Cabinet tells telcos to be honest about internet speed
Telecom firms and internet service providers should be honest about the internet speeds they are delivering to customers, or the cabinet will be forced to intervene, economic affairs minister Maxime Verhagen told MPs on Tuesday.
The call for more clarity is contained in a new policy document outlining IT and internet strategy for the coming years.
A year ago, research a report by the consumers association showed most internet firms do not reach the download speeds for clients they advertise.
The minister also wants to make it possible for companies to organise more of their affairs online to reduce the amount of time they have to spend dealing with paperwork.
