Government considers setting up its own staffing agency
The government is considering setting up its own staffing agency for civil servants who will lose their jobs in the current round of cuts, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Tuesday.
Labour market professor Ton Wilthagen told the paper government officials see a staffing agency as a ‘safer option’ than redundancy. Civil servants would remain in government employ but would be hired out to work for the private and public sector.
‘This means they would partly earn back their wage costs,’ Wilthagen told the the FD. ‘Then hopefully they will get a permanent position elsewhere.’
The government wants to cut spending on the civil service by almost €6.5bn.
A home affairs ministry spokesman told the FD he knew nothing about any plans.
