Minister to end police quotas for fines as soon as possible

Justice minister Ivo Opstelten has written to police chiefs telling them to stop requiring officers to meet quotas for fines.

The Telegraaf reported earlier in the day that Opstelten wanted to wait until a new national police force had been established before taking action, even though a majority of MPs want quotas abandoned now.
The new coalition agreement states that the police may not impose quotas .
Although quotas are supposed to have been phased out, they are still widespread, the Telegraaf reported in September.
For example, Rotterdam police officers who do not hand out 120 fines in a year face a salary cut, the paper claims.
