Hidden Frisian babies were smothered, say prosecutors
The young woman suspected of killing four babies and hiding their bodies in her home smothered the infants, the public prosecution department said on Tuesday.
The three girls and one boy were killed between June 2003 and June 2009, department officials said at the opening day of Sietske H’s trial in Leeuwarden.
The bodies were found hidden in suitcases in the attic of a house in the Frisian village of Nij Beets in August following a tip-off. The woman, now 26, lived there with her parents and worked as a dental assistant in a nearby town.
The woman’s parents claim not to have been aware of any of the pregnancies.
Sietske H was not in court, the Volkskrant reported. She is currently being held in a women’s prison in Zwolle awaiting transfer to a psychiatric prison for assessment.
