Golf club membership should not be tax-deductible
Tax laws should be amended to make sure golf club membership is not seen as a legitimate corporate expense, according to socialist MP Farshad Bashir.
He has submitted an amendment to parliament to stop the practice following a court ruling last week.
A court in Arnhem ruled the owner of a second hand clothing shop could deduct the cost of her golf club membership from tax because it was a way of winning clients.
‘The concept of representation costs has become too wide. There is a real chance that all sorts of leisure activities will become tax-deductible,’ he is quoted as saying by news agency ANP.
