Dutch roads among the world’s safest

Dutch roads are the second safest in the world, with only Britain having marginally fewer traffic-related deaths, the Telegraaf reports on Monday, quoting figures from the International Traffic Forum.

In the Netherlands and Sweden, 3.9 people out of every 100,000 inhabitants are killed in traffic accidents. In Britain the figure is 3.8.
The figures show ‘how responsibly’ the Dutch behave in traffic, caretaker transport minister Camiel Eurlings told the paper.
According to the Telegraaf, separate bike lanes on many roads, roundabouts and collision-friendly crash barriers are among the reasons so few people are killed in car accidents in the Netherlands.
