Little trouble as Dutch nurse collective World Cup hangover

There was little trouble in the wake of Sunday night’s World Cup final as disappointed Oranje fans made their way home from bars and cafes and big screens all over the country.

In The Hague, riot police intervened to break up a gang of some 200 football supporters and made 40 arrests, but the situation was brought quickly under control.
But elsewhere there were few incidents of note, news agency ANP reported.
In Amsterdam, where over 100,000 people had packed on to Museumplein to watch the game, the crowd dispersed quietly.
In Utrecht there were some 20 arrests after the match. And in Maastricht, Sittard, Venlo and Venray the post-match atmosphere was said to be restless.
In Zwolle, a gun-wielding 22-year-old man was arrested after he fired shots into the air.
There were also a number of arrests in Deventer and Zwolle. But in areas where outdoor screens had been set up it was quiet after the final whistle. ‘In particular in Deventer the square was almost empty just minutes after the game was over,’ a police spokesman told the Volkskrant.
