Gio bows out of professional football, as a player

Dutch football captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst bowed out of professional football on Sunday at a friendly between Feyenoord and Real Mallorca.

The Rotterdammer started out with Feyenoord as a seven-year-old and played his first professional match for the club in 1993. He returned three years ago after a career with Glasgow Rangers, Arsenal and FC Barcelona.
He has 106 caps for the Dutch national squad and took Oranje to the final of this year’s World Cup in South Africa.
Van Bronckhorst is training to become a coach and will remain attached to Feyenoord as an intern.
