First new herring barrel raises €58,000
The first barrel of new Dutch herring has been sold at auction in Scheveningen for €58,000.
The winning bid was made by food wholesale company Makro which is donating the fish to a restaurant in Delft, specialising in fish from sustainable sources.
Experts say this year’s catch is not as fatty as last year.
