First aid skills need improvement

Although 98% of the Dutch know they should dial 112 to alert the emergency services to an accident, only half would be able to offer any first aid help to victims, the Telegraaf reports on Tuesday.

The figures come from the Red Cross which is launching a campaign to improve first aid skills on Wednesday.
For example, only one in five know what to do when a child swallows a marble which becomes lodged in their wind pipe (alternating sharp blows between the shoulder blades and thrusts to the chest) or that they should keep suspected broken bones cool, the organisation said.
