Finance minister Jan Kees de Jager will not introduce a lower limit for inclusion on the official registration of bad debts, he told Liberal MPs on Monday.

MP Frans Weekers had asked the minister to make the change, saying it is ‘idiotic’ that people cannot get a mortgage because they once paid a €90 mobile phone bill too late.
De Jager said he was not in favour of a lower limit to the BKR register because it would make it too easy for people to build up debts.
In addition, people who do not pay their mobile phone bills on time are three-times as likely to run up debts than the average person, ANP quoted the minister as saying.
