Libya crash survivor Ruben ‘doing well’, say relatives

The nine-year-old boy who was the sole survivor of last week’s plane crash in Libya is recovering well in hospital, his relatives said in a press statement on Tuesday.

Ruben van Assouw’s parents and brother were among the 103 people killed in the crash. He sustained multiple fractures to his legs and feet.
‘Ruben is doing well. He has had a bite to eat and has been watching a little TV. It is incredible how quickly he is improving,’ the statement said.
‘His doctors expect him to make a full recovery with time. He will have to undergo another operation, however. The surgery will be scheduled as soon as Ruben is strong enough.’
The statement said Ruben had been very happy to see his cousins again and urged the media to leave the family alone to come to terms with the loss of its ‘loved ones’.
