Event organisers should pay extra policing costs: union
Football clubs and festival organisers should pay for cost of policing their events, a senior police union official says in the AD on Tuesday.
ACP official Gerrit van der Kamp says a special event tax would keep policing at major events affordable, in the light of government spending cuts.
‘If we want to keep doing things as we do now, we need action,’ he said. ‘We either decide what we will no longer do, or we think an event is so important we find the money for it. That would allow police forces to lighten the load by structurally employing more officers.’
Security demands have been tightened up since the riots at a dance festival last summer and the attack on the royal family during Queen’s Day in 2009. For example, the cost of policing the Dutch cup finals between Feyenoord and Ajax was put at €1m, the paper says.
