Crematoria don’t collect enough gold

Good causes are missing out on a million euros a year because Dutch crematoria do not collect enough gold and other metals from cremation ash, tv show Nova reported on Tuesday night.

Crematoria only collect an average of 50 grammes of gold and other precious metals per body, but they could collect up to 150 grammes, the research by the crematorium association shows.
Money raised from selling the gold, jewellery and other recyclables is given to charity.
Last year, 76,191 people were cremated in the Netherlands, 56% of all those who died, Nos said.
A crematorium spokesman said it was not the job of crematoria workers to sift through the ash for gold.
