Rotterdam police knew paedophile priest was working in the city

Rotterdam police knew that Oliver O’Grady, a convicted paedophile priest, was living and working in the port city but failed to report his presence to the city’s mayor or the organisations he worked with, the NRC reports on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb said the mayor was only informed of his presence in the community last January. The mayor’s request to have O’Grady declared persona non grata was rejected by the justice ministry, the paper said.
Then council officials visited O’Grady and had a ‘serious conversation’ with the man who left the city a few days later.
Police said on Tuesday they had no reports of O’Grady molesting any children during his time in the city.
The defrocked priest served seven years in a US jail for child abuse. During his time in Rotterdam he helped out at the expat Church of the Holy Heart, Christ Our Redeemer, volunteered at a homeless shelter and worked at a MacDonald’s fast-food restaurant where he helped organise children’s parties.
