Dune fire near Bergen aan Zee, locals can go home
The 400 residents of seaside resort Bergen aan Zee in Noord-Holland have been allowed to return to their homes after fire fighters managed to get a massive dune fire under control.
The fire started on Wednesday afternoon and spread very quickly, threatening homes and holiday houses in the dune village. Fire fighters managed to turn the fire after clearing an area of land of vegetation to stop it spreading.
Bergen aan Zee mayor Hetty Hafkamp declined to comment on reports that the fire was started deliberately.
The area was hit by several dune fires last year.
