Deposits on small plastic bottles loom, if recycling flops
MPs on Tuesday evening opened the way to introduce deposits on small plastic drinks bottles, if efforts to encourage plastic recycling fail, news agency ANP reports.
A majority of MPs backed a motion by Labour MP Jan Boelhouwer which would allow the introduction of deposits on water bottles if government recycling targets are not met.
Large plastic bottles already fall under a deposit scheme.
The environment ministry hopes 38% of all plastic waste will be collected for recycling this year, rising to 42% in 2011.
