Akzo Nobel ‘cautiously optimistic’ after good Q1

Add as a favourite source on Google Add DutchNews as a favourite source on GoogleChemicals and coatings group Akzo Nobel posted better-than-expected first-quarter earnings on Friday and said it is ‘cautiously optimistic’ about the prospects for the rest of the year.
Total group sales rose 6% to €3.2bn, while net profit was up 7% at €81m, the company said in a statement.
The company also said it has been approached by potential buyers for its food additives unit National Starch, which is up for sale. National Starch has not been included in the first quarter figures.
