Second hand car imports rise

Dutch motorists imported 78,000 second hand cars from abroad last year, an increase of 8% on 2008, according to garage organisation Bovag.

This means one in 10 second hand cars on the Dutch roads came from abroad. Germany is the most popular country of origin. Second hand import cars are usually between one and four years old.
New car sales fell 20% last year because of the recession and the biggest car dealership in the country, Kroymans, went bankrupt.
Earlier this month, Bovag called for a shake-up in the way cars are sold in the Netherlands.
