Minister acts on driving licence boss pay
Caretaker transport minister Camiel Eurlings is to take action over the high salaries paid to executives at the state-owned driving licence authority CBR.
Earlier this week it emerged that the CBR’s ‘director of production’ had a 17% pay rise last year, talking his salary to over €271,000 – well above accepted norms for a public sector body.
And the organisation’s director earned €448,300 last year as an external employee. He has been hired in to do the job since 2007.
‘I can completely understand the unease about this,’ Eurlings said in a debate with MPs. All new senior staff will earn no more than the prime minister, he said.
The prime minister’s basic pay package of €181,000 is considered the standard for most public sector jobs.
The driving licence body is already under fire over problems with its administration system and financial performance. An official report into the situation is due before this summer.
