Kilometre tax takes a back seat

Parliament on Thursday declared the policy of a kilometre tax on driving to be controversial, meaning it will have to wait until the formation of a new government after the elections on June 9 and may disappear altogether, according to the Telegraaf.

Transport minister Camiel Eurlings has been trying to introduce the policy of charging every driver for each kilometre they drive since 2007. But with a substantial minority of MPs against the move, the current caretaker government is not in a position to make a decision.
