Many farms too small to survive
Three out of 10 farms in the Netherlands are too small to be viable, according to new figures from the national statistics office CBS.
In total, 22,000 farms are considered to be officially small, but it is not clear how many of them have other sources of income, the CBS said.
The CBS defines a small livestock farm as having fewer than 17 cows. Small potato farms have fewer than 6.6 hectares of arable land.
In total, small farms account for just 2.7% of agricultural production and cover 8% of farm land, the CBS said.
