Dutch households borrowed some €9.7bn last year, the lowest total in 10 years, the national statistics office CBS said on Thursday.


In particular, consumers were reluctant to borrow money to buy major items such as cars, furniture and electric goods, the CBS said.
By the end of the year, Dutch households had outstanding consumer loans totalling €17.9bn, down 0.6% on December 2008.
