Fewer companies were declared bankrupt in the Netherlands last month than a year earlier, according to provisional figures from the national statistics agency CBS.

A total of 302 businesses went bankrupt in June, 12 fewer than in the same month of 2025 – a fall of 4% – although that was 15 more than in May.

The bankruptcy rate dropped to 8.1 per 100,000 businesses, down from 8.6 a year earlier. The CBS said the trend had been slightly downward since the autumn of 2024.

Not every sector followed suit. Bankruptcies rose sharply in transport and storage, where 39.2 firms per 100,000 went under against 12.1 a year earlier, and in industry, at 32.7 per 100,000 compared with 16.7 – though those sector figures are not adjusted for the number of court sitting days.

The numbers extend a calmer picture after a 15% fall in company failures across 2025 as a whole.
