Thief tries to sell stolen car to a policeman

A 33-year-old man from Rotterdam has been arrested after trying to sell a stolen car to a plain clothes policeman, news agency ANP reports on Monday.

The man approached the officer in the Hague and asked if he wanted to buy a car for €250 . When the policeman asked how he came by the Peugeot, the man apparently answered that he had stolen it.
The police officer then said he had a friend who might be interested. In fact, he phoned his police station to ensure colleagues were waiting to arrest the thief at the garage where the car was supposed to be parked.
But when they went in search of the stolen car they could only find one Peugeot in the garage and that was not on the stolen list. At that moment, however, the owner returned. He had just been to the police because his car keys had been stolen from his jacket pocket the night before.
The car owner now has his keys back, and the thief is in custody, ANP said.
