Supermarket turnover rose 5.5% in 2009
The Netherlands’ supermarkets booked a 5.5% increase in turnover in 2009 despite the recession, according to figures by grocery sector market research group Gfk.
In total, turnover reached over €31.5bn. Adjusted for extra shopping days, the increase was 3.4% or €31bn. In particular, Christmas sales were up 3.3% to almost €2bn.
This year, supermarkets are expecting a 1.5% increase in sales, Gfk said on its website.
