Speed skater Erben Wennemars will formally retire from the sport after the Dutch short track championships next week, the Volkskrant reports on Tuesday.

Wennemars, 34, specialises in the 500, 1000 and 1500 meters but failed to make this year’s Winter Olympics team.
The skater is twice world sprint champion and has five single distance world sprint titles to his name.
