Sparrow again tops national bird count list
The sparrow again tops the list of most common Dutch birds following Sunday’s mass count of garden birds by some 31,000 people.
Count organisers Sovon Vogelonderzoek say the dominance of the sparrow is significant because its numbers have halved over the past 25 years.
The next most common garden bird is the black bird – which is also the most widely spread. In third place is the great tit and the robin.
