Ministers to act on Amsterdam business park
Ministers are to meet on Thursday to finalise the government’s involvement in plans to put the railway and motorway which bisect Amsterdam’s Zuidas business park into a 1.2 km tunnel, the Financieele Dagblad reports on Monday.
The paper bases its claims on political and financial sector sources.
The plan, which will now be carried out in phases and funded entirely by the taxpayer, was originally to have been a public private partnership. But despite their initial interest, no private firms have been willing to put cash into the project. Some 60% of the €4bn bill was supposed to come from the private sector.
The paper says finance minister Wouter Bos, transport minister Camiel Eurlings, economic affairs minister Maria van der Hoeven and planning minister Jacqueline Cramer will discuss three possible options for building the tunnel.
The project will take until at least 2028 to complete.
