Everyone will be worse off in 2010
Almost everyone will have less disposable income in 2010 and families with children will be hardest hit, according to the household spending institute Nibud on Wednesday.
Nibud says January pay packages for people without a structural wage increase will be lower than 2008 because of tax increases.
And the average pay rise is set to be around 1.25% this year, lower than the forecast rate of inflation, and this will also hurt spending power.
In addition, child benefit has been frozen. And families with young children and household income of over €32,500 a year will also get less government cash.
Unemployment will also hit many households hard, Nibud said. The official jobless total is expected to reach 510,000 this year, compared with 380,000 in 2009. Unemployment benefit is calculated as 70% of last earned salary.
