Amsterdam screens kids on mental health

Amsterdam city council is to carry out trial checks of primary school pupils to find out if they are suffering from ‘psycho-social’ problems, Trouw reports on Tuesday.

The experiment will focus on five schools in the western part of the city. Parents and teachers will be asked to fill in a questionnaire which will then be analysed by experts. If necessary, the child will be further examined and given treatment, Trouw says.
In total, 1,200 children aged five to 12 will be included in the experiment. The council hopes the test will allow officials to identify problems at a young age so they can be treated as early as possible.
