Some 35,000 goats to be slaughtered

Government vets will begin slaughtering all male and pregnant goats and sheep on farms which have been infected with Q fever on December 21, farm minister Gerda Verburg and health minister Ab Klink said on Wednesday

Male goats and sheep on infected farms have been added to the list because the infection can be spread via sperm, Nos tv reported.
In total, at least 34,500 will be killed by lethal injection. Q fever has been found on at least 55 farms.
The government has come under increasing pressure from animal health experts to tackle Q fever which can spread to humans. By the end of November, some 2,300 people had developed Q fever and six had died, all of whom had other health problems.
