Heineken to brew beer in India

Heineken has signed a deal to brew and distribute its own beer in India, giving it a foothold in one of the world’s fastest-growing beer markets.

Heineken has a deal with India’s biggest brewery United Breweries Limited, in which the Dutch brewer already has a 37% stake. UBL produces Kingfisher, the Indian market leader.
‘We have long regarded a strong Indian presence as important in order to increase our exposure to and growth from developing markets,’ Heineken CEO Jean-François van Boxmeer said in a statement.
At the moment, beer consumption in India is around one liter per head of the population, compared with several dozen litres in the Netherlands.
