Enschede council backs airport plan
Enschede city council is set to back developing a commercial airport on the former Twente airforce base, the Volkskrant reports on Tuesday.
A majority of councillors is in favour of the plan, despite local objections about noise, the paper says.
On Monday evening, some 250 people demonstrated outside a council meeting called to debate the airport plans. A final decision is due to be taken mid-December.
If an operator can be found, the airport will be able to go into operation in 2011, the paper said.
