Dutch media tycoon John de Mol, the man behind Big Brother, has been included in the Financial Times’ worldwide top 50 most influential people of the decade.

De Mol ‘gave birth to a genre that has dominated global tv for a decade’ says the FT.
The Dutchman comes in at number 40, just behind Melinda Gates (wife of Microsoft’s co-founder Bill) who is nominated for her role in the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and just before maverick British artist Damien Hirst.
According to the paper not everyone on the list is a hero, some are crooks but the majority are somewhere between the two extremes, it said.
The list selected people in four categories: politics, business, economy and culture.
