Employers say ´heavy work´ plan impossible
The government´s plans to make companies find alternative jobs for workers doing heavy jobs after 30 years are doomed to fail, according to a survey for the FNV trade union by TNS Nipo.
Of the 591 employers taking part in the online poll, 84% said it would not be possible to find alternative jobs within their own firms and 86% said they did not think it would be possible at other companies.
The government is planning to increase the state pension age from 65 to 66 by 2020 and then to 67 in 2027. But it wants employers to take steps to make sure workers doing heavy jobs do not become worn out and is planning to put a 30-year limit on heavy jobs.
Social affairs minister Piet Hein Donner has asked unions and employers to work together on drawing up a definition of ‘heavy work’.
