Wadden island darkest place in Holland

The Wadden Sea island of Schiermonnikoog is the darkest place in the Netherlands at night, according to research by environmental groups.

Second on the list is Het Hogeland, an area of farmland in the far north of Groningen province.
The ranking was drawn up to mark the Nacht van de Nacht (night of the night) on October 24, when street and other lighting is switched off in towns and villages all over the country as part of a campaign try to reduce light pollution at night.
Some 3,000 stars can be seen from Schiermonnikoog on a clear night with no moon, but in the more populated Gelderse Vallei, just 600 can be seen, the environmental groups say.
