Retail sales figures down nearly 8%
The Dutch retail sector reported a drop of 7.7% in turnover in August, compared with the previous year, the national statistics office CBS said on Thursday.
The bulk of the drop was due to fewer purchases being made. Prices were down an average 0.7% due to falling fuel prices, the CBS said.
The non-food sector was hardest hit, with turnover down an average of 11%. The consumer electronics and clothing sectors were particularly badly affected.
