Man jailed for air hostess murder at new trial

A 33-year old man has been jailed for 15 years for the rape and murder of an air hostess in 1994, bringing one of the most controversial legal cases in recent Dutch history to a conclusion.

Two other men from the village of Putten, Wilco Viets and Herman du Bois, completed seven years of a 10-year jail sentence for the crime and were released in 2002. Their convictions were largely based on confessions, which they later withdrew. In 2002 the convictions were overturned as scientists reviewed the DNA evidence.
Ron P, who was 18 at the time of the murder, was arrested in May 2008 after scientists matched his DNA to that of sperm found on the body of Christel Ambrosius, murdered in her grandmother’s home on the edge of woods in Gelderland.
He too denies killing Christel but says they had a secret relationship.
