‘Light’ flu epidemic under way in Holland

The national health institute RIVM is set to declare the Netherlands is in the grip of a ‘light’ swine flu epidemic later today, the Telegraaf reports on Friday.

The number of cases of H1N1 is growing, particularly at schools, and the samples taken from patients show ‘only’ swine flu, the paper says.
A spokesman for the RIVM told the paper last week there were 6.9 cases of flu for every 10,000 residents. More than 50 cases per 100,000 residents for two weeks in a row means a ‘light epidemic’, the spokesman said.
The RIVM will look at the figures again today before making an announcement, the paper said.
