Homing pigeon goes Japanese for €80,000
A Dutch homing pigeon called Nellie has been sold to a Japanese pigeon racer for €80,000, the Telegraaf reports on Monday.
Nellie, 4, won an international race featuring 27,626 pigeons last summer and since then the bids have been flooding in, the paper says.
The pigeon, from IJsselstein near Utrecht, was put under extra police protection for a time after the victory and still spends the night in a cage in her owner’s bedroom to avoid burglars.
